Atlético extended their unbeaten run at home to 26 games since losing 1-0 to Barcelona in January last year.

Griezmann, who recently became Atlético's all-time top scorer, missed a 26th-minute penalty, slipped and fired a shot from the spot that went well over the crossbar. The France international also had a goal ruled out for offside in the 60th minute. Depay's goal in the 68th minute was ruled out for offside.

Veteran Sevilla defender Sergio Ramos had a clear chance to equalize in the 85th minute, but his fierce cross from the right wing found the back of the net from close range. The former Real Madrid player, who was often jeered by Atlético fans at the Metropolitano, also had a chance to head home early in stoppage time.

Sevilla have been in a long-term slump with just one win in their last 15 games in the Spanish league. They were eliminated last season as well, losing to eventual runner-up Osasuna in the Copa quarterfinals.

On Wednesday, Athletic Bilbao defeated Barcelona 4-2 in extra time to advance to the Copa semi-finals, but Spanish league leaders Girona lost 3-2 to Mallorca.

Real Sociedad defeated Celta Vigo 2-1 on Tuesday to advance to the last four for the first time since winning the title four seasons ago.

The two-legged semi-finals will be held in February. Up until now, there have been single-elimination games.
